The Paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division were feared by an enemy who would defy the spearhead of the world power; yet the same paratroopers the enemy feared would be welcome into the homes of the people who waited patiently and silently for their own rescue.  No other fighting unit in World War II could equal the accomplishments of the 505th Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division.

I am looking for information on Vernon Fletcher Knight, he was in the 82 airborne, can you tell me if there is information about him in this book? He was my husband’s uncle. We have his purple heart and little else about him, except what the government has sent us.

Denise: Thank you for your interest in the book “They Are Only Gone If They Are Forgotten”. Yes there is information on Vernon Knight in the book. My father knew Vernon as he did the others that were original members of the company. It has taken 20 years of my life to produce this book and I did it to relieve the pain that my father’s war time experience our family through…..

I just and by accident saw your comment and I’m trying to order the BOOK !
I’m not a fan of war story’s only because are so painful, and what I mean is that I don’t watch war movies, but I know them all, its the pain that overpowers me, but I tell myself is part of it, and to deal with it! I am a fan of storytelling, my dad and my moms mom, ” mommy” told story’s, to this day I go back to the same scenario!! And I treasure every second of it!!
Thank you , and your dad, and your family’s sacrifices!!! I’m sure it wasn’t easy! God Bless! ?????

Hi Steve, how are you doing I hope you are well. We to are on lockdown this means that I have had time to finish your book. Well what can I say, the detail of all the encounters your farther had seen and participated in was incredible. What he and the others did for all the future generations was amazing. Reading your book has given us a insight of what homer and so many others had gone through, a genuinely moving read. Thank you for taking all your time and effort to create such a amazing and incredible book. This book should be in all schools as a educational tool to show what you’re father and his generation have up. I think your farther and all the 82nd would be proud of your book. Stay safe Peter and Julie
